LK's Products You'll Need


For the Pap
  • 6 Cups water
  • 500g Maize meal
  • Salt, to taste
For the boerewors
  • 1kg Boerewors Sausage
  • 50g Butter, diced
For the Chakalaka
  • 2 tbsp. Olive oil
  • 1 Large onion, diced
  • 2 Garlic cloves, finely chopped
  • 2cm Ginger, finely chopped
  • 2 tsp. Barbeque spice, to taste
  • 2 Ripe tomatoes, diced
  • 2 tsp. Freshly ground pepper, to taste
  • 1 Lemon zest



Note:You can prepare this dish on the stove or over the open fire.

  • For the pap: In the LK’s Sauce Pot, bring the water to boil. Slowly stir in the maize meal and add salt to taste. Lower the heat and cover partially with the lid. For 30 minutes, allow to simmer while occasionally stirring, until the maize is cooked. Dish out and clean the pan to prepare the Chakalaka.
  • For the Boerewors: Over medium heat, heat butter in the LK’s Cast Iron Skillet. Add the wors and turn occasionally for 20 – 25 minutes until golden brown and cooked through.
  • For the Chakalaka: Over medium heat, add the oil to LK’s Sauce Pot. Add the onions and cook for 6-8 minutes, until softened. Add the garlic and ginger and leave to cook for another 2 minutes. Add the barbeque spice and stir. Add the tomatoes, salt, pepper, and lemon zest, and cook until tomato has softened.
  • Serve the pap and boerewors with the chakalaka. Enjoy!
